Micro Balance
A Mettler Toledo MX5 maximum weight 5g, readability 0.000001g.
Sartorius Handy maximum weight 30g, readability 0.0001g.
This gives us a sufficient weighing range and accuracy to be able to weigh the targets foils and frames. This allows us to calculate the target thickness using a non-destructive technique.
Tube Furnace
Carbolite tube furnace used for the heating of enriched isotopes in their oxide form to reduce it to its pure form.
Vacuum Furnace
Townson & Mercer Ltd vacuum furnace used to heat enriched isotopes in their oxide form to reduce it to its pure form.
Hydraulic Press
A Beckman 0-25 tonnes hydraulic press is used to press powder forms of isotopes into a pill form to make the evaporation easier.
Fume Cupboards
There are four large fume cupboards in the lab used for chemical reduction of Isotopes and chemical deposition of some materials.
Vacuum Storage
Used to store targets and Isotopes that would normally deteriorate in normal atmospheric conditions. This is currently being upgrade and a new design is now ready and currently being manufactured.
