We have been designing full-custom image sensors for scientific applications since the 1990s. Initially, our focus was on space science, earth observation and particle physics. Since then, our expertise has expanded to include other high-end sectors such as medical imaging and transmission electron microscopy. Work is now carried out over a vast range of activities with a wide range of scientific and industrial partners.
Over the years, a considerable portfolio of Intellectual Property (IP) has also been developed. Today, this portfolio is used to meet our customers' many demanding requirements and can be adapted to fulfill your imaging specifications. Included in the portfolio is the patented INMAPS process, allowing us to develop intelligent pixels without compromising imaging performance.
Our sensors can efficiently detect radiation from across the electro-magnetic spectrum. This can include detecting any of the following:
- Gamma Rays
- Visible Light
- Ultra-Violet Light
- Charged Particles
Sensors are also available in a wide range of sizes. Currently, devices can be manufactured up to the size of a full CMOS wafer – 300mm in diameter. Pixel pitch can also be varied to meet your unique requirements. Options are available from the micron scale up to several tens of microns.
Design work is carried out using state-of-the-art CIS technologies and Computer Aided Design (CAD) tools. We have established strategic partnerships with leading-edge foundries and have access to technologies as small as 90 nm, with most of our designs being carried out at the 180nm node. The CMOS Sensor Design Group has a proven track record of '1st-time-right' designs and is certified to ISO9001-2008.
